How do I protect GameStrat hardware in rain and wet conditions?
Some GameStrat components are built for outdoor use. Others must always be kept dry. Here's what needs protection and the recommended approach for wet-weather games.
Water-resistant components
GameStrat Bridge, GameStrat Station, GameStrat Sideline WiFi Antenna, and Press Box WiFi Antenna
These can stay outside but should always be mounted upright with Ethernet ports facing down or sideways. Never allow ports to face upward where water can pool inside them.
Outdoor HDMI and Ethernet cables
Rated for outdoor use, but protect all connection points to prevent moisture from getting into the joints.
Non-waterproof components
GameStrat Streaming Device, GameStrat Capture Device, GameStrat Router, and power boxes
Use the hard case method described below to protect these during wet-weather games.
Laptop
Keep inside the press box or under solid cover at all times. Do not leave it exposed even briefly.
Cameras
Weather resistance varies by model. Use a camera-specific rain cover regardless of what your camera's rating is.
Protect your equipment with the hard case
- Place the GameStrat Router, GameStrat Capture Device, GameStrat Streaming Device, and power boxes inside their respective cases.
- Connect all cables to the correct hardware component, then route them out through the case opening.
- Close the lid gently so it rests on the cables. Do not force it to latch shut.
- Position the closed case away from direct rain where possible.
Note: Forcing the case lid shut can pinch and damage cables. It only needs to rest closed — it does not need to click or latch.
After a rain game
- Inspect all components for moisture before packing them away.
- Wipe everything with dry towels and allow it to air dry in a climate-controlled space.
- Test all equipment before your next game to confirm everything is functioning normally.
